One of
our areas of sub-specialization is custody and/or visitation
disputes. The legal standard in California, when there is a
dispute over either custody or visitation, is "the best interest
of the child," which generally means that the court will attempt
to preserve the status quo since stability is of crucial
importance for minor children. Therefore, part of our task if
custody and/or visitation is an issue is to prove what what the
status quo was in the recent past. The status quo will usually be
continued with custody and visitation orders except in cases of
emergency, where the court may modify custody and/or visitation to
protect the minor children.
